LO1: P1 Photography

Stephen McCurry is an American freelance photographer. He was born in Philadelphia in 1950. McCurry uses a Nikon D810 with a 24-70mm lens for around 98% of his work, he is most famous for is portrait image of a young Afghan girl who is covered in dust and debris. A lot of his images depict war and what it does to the younger generation as he takes the images in countries that have a lot of conflicts. McCurry take most of his images in portrait. A lot of the colour in his images are darker and this is because of these are in war and don't have access to regularly shower/bathe so that is why the his images are really dark in colour.

This image was chosen as it seems to show what a mother and child look like in poverty and civil conflict this image seems to have been shot outside someones home I assume this because the walls on the back look like wood which makes me believe they could possible be doors.

This image shows the piercing green eyes of a young girl who is in a country  that has civil conflict This image is believed to be taken outside this is because this image is taken of a young girl in Afghanistan.

This image uses depth of field we know this because the background behind is really blurry and the girl is really sharp and clear and we can see all her details.

This image shows and image of a young Boy with munitions it looks like he is in a training ground.

"I look for that unguarded moment and try to convey some part of what it is like to be that person, or in a broader sense, to relate their life to the human experience as a whole."

Robert Capa

Robert Capa was a Hungarian-American war photographer and photojournalist as well as the companion and professional partner of photographer Gerda Taro. He is considered by some to be the greatest combat and adventure photographer in history. Robert Cappa's most notable photography is one called 'Death of a Loyalist Solider'. A lot of Capa's images are landscape and are in black and white as he was a photographer from before colour cameras. Cappa used a 35MM Leica camera this is because it as lightweight and easy to carry being beneficial to him as he took images in war.

This image depicts a solider getting treated for his injuries by another solider. this image is taken outside we can tell by the shadows and what looks like to be trees in the background it shows the difference between war and peace as this man is getting treated although he is a German solider, the man who is treating him is an American solider. You can see the depth of field as the two soldiers are really sharp and the background is really blurred this is achieved with a high F Stop
This image shows a Spanish solider mid fall as he has received a Fatal gunshot wound this is Capas most known image called 'Death of a Loyalist Solider'. we can tell this image is taken in an outdoor setting as we can see the sky and the grass the man is falling on.   this falls in the category of war.

In this image You are able to notice that this image uses the golden ratio as the image only shows one thing which pulls you in.

This image depict a man surrendering after being at gun point by another solider this image is shot outside we can tell by the snow and fences.

This image uses Golden ratio and leading lines as your solider with the gun is to the right and the captured solider is in the middle between two posts

Henri Cartier-Bresson

Henri Cartier-Bresson was a French humanist photographer considered a master of candid photography, and an early user of 35 mm film. He pioneered the genre of street photography, and viewed photography as capturing a decisive moment Henri's image are mainly landscape though it did vary as he also used portrait as well his images were all in black and white, his street photography was revolutionary as he was the pioneer for it and he multiple images such as street performers shooting fire out of their mouths Henri was known to only use one camera, a Leica rangefinder, and one lens, a 50mm, for almost all of his life's work.

This image shows a person running on water and because of the reflection of water it can give us another perspective. this image is shot outside we can tell due to the nature of the image as we can see fences and buildings.

This image uses golden ratio as you can see the closest subject is off center and is towards the right of the image.

This image shows a couple in-front of the Eiffel Tower and a person leaping this image could have a hidden meaning for example leap for love or some other hidden meaning.

in this image you can see the perspective of the eiffel tower you can tell that it quiet close by as you can see the building on the left ends near it

This image also uses golden ratio as you can see that both the Eiffel tower and couple are off center.

This image shows how street entertainers can do amazing things like in this image this man shows how he shot fire out of his mouth. we known this is outdoor and we can assume that this may be some event this is because of the fact that they have street entertainers there.

For the most part all of these photographers use the same style and this is because this is what they are good at and comfortable with and this allows them to take amazing photos. and that is why they use the same style for all their photos.

I believe either Robert Capa or Stephen McCurry have the most effective images it is incredibly difficult to choose between the two this is because they both similar genres but I do prefer Robert Capa's work and this is because his work shows the punishment of war such as injury, capture and death all the image I have shown above of his work convey all these thing and I feel like his images prove the destructive nature of war and how it effects the human mind/soul.
